Pain you are
a vicious foe.
You crept up
so quietly.
Like a thief
in the night.
You gradually
tried to steal my life away.
You stole my
sleep and flexibility.
You stole so
many of my life enjoyments.
Yet there is
one place you are barred.
In my head I
will mount the barricades.
Barb wire
will cut you.
Poisonous
plants will bind you.
Dragons will
burn you.
Dinosaurs
will chomp on you.
If you
should dare to trespass there.
Within my
head there are worlds,
In which you
do not belong.
My
imagination soars far away from you.
Into far of
lands, where time expands.
Pain you cannot
reach me there.

Creativity and Pain
This poem should explore creativity as a healing salve, as a shield, as a
weapon, or as a negotiation method to use when dealing with physical
and/or psychological pain.
Yes! Close the gates! Fill the moats! Pain shall not past! I LOVE the defiance in your writing!
ReplyDeleteAs Sharon said, yay for closing the gates! For putting on our big boots and kicking the bastard in the face, if it dares try to creep where it doesn't belong. Our imagination is ours, and there pain is only good for chopping.
ReplyDeleteI love the imagery that flies around your poem. The way the speaker says, Enough is enough pain. You have your place, and my mind-world is not it.
Yum!
Ha! And stay out! Playful, but decidedly firm!
ReplyDelete".. Within my head there are worlds,
ReplyDeleteIn which you do not belong..." this really was such a pivotal point of the poem for me--staking out that territory and defending it with whatever weapons one has--patience, grit, words, and whimsy. Beautifully imagined.
"You stole so many of my life enjoyments."

I love the battlefield image of this and how you make your hurts the enemy. So good!
